Main Material:
Wood pulp
Secondary Material:
Caustic soda, carbon disulphide
Process
Wood pulp cellulose is dissolved in caustic soda. This produces a chemical reaction which converts the wood pulp celluslose into alkali cellulose. This is then pressed to remove excess liquid before being shredded and aged via exposure to pure oxygen followed by carbon disulphide. This creates a substance known as 'yellow crumb'. This is dissolved and left to ripen for a number of hours before being filtered and extruded through a spinneret. The extruded substance is bathed in a sulfuric acid solution which creates the filaments. These are then spun, drawn and washed.
